What is Eucalyptus Essential Oil good for?

As a natural antibacterial, if there’s one essential oil that’s famous for use around the home, it’s Eucalyptus Essential Oil.

This amazing oil has a long history of traditional use for colds and flu, but recent years have seen its popularity surge as a naturally derived, all-purpose cleaner.

With a clean fresh fragrance, there’s dozens of ways to use this versatile oil at home. Here’s our top 4.

  1. Laundry
There’s a reason eucalyptus oil is included in so many commercial laundry formulas. It freshens and deodorizes beautifully, especially washing that is notorious for odours – like tradies’ work gear, sports wear and socks.

It’s also great as a prewash on stains, like grease and oil or perspiration.

How to use:  Use Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Spray to spray stains before washing.  To soak tough stains - use 1 capful of Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Essential Oil with your normal laundry soaker or detergent and follow the directions for use.  As a freshening laundry boost, add 3 capfuls to your main wash along with your usual detergent, or 2 capfuls to your final rinse with ¼ cup of white vinegar (instead of your usual fabric softener).

Always check and follow manufacturers washing guidelines for all fabrics and spot test first.

  2. Mopping floors
That fresh clean smell and the ability to cut through sticky substances and grease make eucalyptus oil perfect for mopping your floors.

    How to use:
2-3 capfuls of Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Essential Oil in a bucket of hot water  (either alone or with your usual floor cleaner) or use 3 capfuls of Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Solution – it’s water soluble so it easily disperses.  Pre-mopping, you can also spray any particularly sticky or grimy areas with Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Spray, so when you’re ready to mop they’re easier to lift.

Suitable for most sealed surfaces.  However, always check and follow manufacturer’s cleaning guidelines for your type of flooring and spot test first.

  3. Anything Sticky & Greasy
One thing eucalyptus oil has always been famous for is removing sticky labels from jars.
This same ability to dissolve glue bonds can come in handy for other areas of the home which can get sticky and grimy, too.

    These include:
    - Cooking rangehoods, and surfaces around the stovetop
    - Window tracks
    - Vertical blinds
    - Tops of ceiling fans
    - Pantry shelves
    - Top of the fridge!

How to use: Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Solution is terrific here.  Add 50mL to 1 litre of warm water and use it either with a cloth or in a spray bottle.

Always check and follow manufacturer’s cleaning guidelines for surfaces and items around the home and spot test first.
  4. Odours
Ever taken a deep breath in during a bushwalk? There’s nothing like the fresh, crisp scent of eucalyptus leaves.  Nature’s air freshener, eucalyptus oil can be used all around the home to help deodorise without the need for artificial fragrances.

In a Spray, it also kills common household bacteria – which can be a cause of odours.

How to use:  Keep a can of Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Spray near your inside rubbish bins and spray as needed.   Spray mattresses and pillows when changing sheets to keep them fresh and deodorized.  Spray sports shoes, gym bags and home workout equipment.  And don’t forget to keep a can in the toilet!

Always read the label and follow the directions for use.
