5 Fresh Summer Hacks with Eucalyptus Oil

Eucalyptus oil is traditionally known for winter uses, but that doesn’t mean you need to pack it away now the weather’s heating up. In fact, there are lot of benefits from this refreshing, multi-use essential oil in summer.

1. Wakeup shower!

Summer’s the season to be sociable, which can mean lots of parties.

If you’re feeling tired or a bit delicate in the morning, here’s a great tip to help you freshen up and face the day.

With the hot water on, spray a small quantity of Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Spray around the bottom edge of the shower. You can also add a capful of Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Oil onto a damp face washer then lay it on the floor of the shower – a DIY sauna experience!

The aroma of eucalyptus oil is fantastic for an early morning wakeup call, helps clear the head and has a rejuvenating effect on the senses.

2. Wheelie Bins

In summer, bin odour can go into overdrive. Answer? Eucalyptus oil. It kills common germs that cause bad smells – plus, it leaves a lingering freshness that beats synthetic fragrances hands down. Here’s how to beat that wheelie smelly bin.

1. Pour 100mL of Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Solution, OR 25mL of Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Oil plus ¼ cup eco-friendly dishwashing detergent like our Dish Wash into your empty bin.

2. Quarter fill the bin with water. Garden hose water is usually fine, but if it’s your first clean in a while or there’s lots of caked-on rubbish at the bottom, use 4 kettles full of boiling water instead.

3. Leave sit with the lid closed for 30 minutes.

4. While it’s sitting, spray the outside surfaces and bin lid with Bosisto’s Multipurpose Spray, or Eucalyptus Solution made up into a spray (see label directions).

5. Using an old broom and scrubbing brush, scrub all the inside and outside surfaces of the bin. Drain, and rinse well. A pressure hose really comes in handy for this purpose.

6. Leave upside down until fully dry.

3. Hostess with the Mostess

Summer entertaining? Eucalyptus oil is your secret weapon. Use it all around the home to keep it fresh & clean – it won’t go unnoticed!

• A few drops of Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Oil on a piece of paper towel underneath each bin liner, in the bathrooms and kitchen.

• Wash guest towels and bedding with two capfuls of eucalyptus oil in the final rinse for that “mmmm” smell.

• Mop your floors with 2-3 capfuls of eucalyptus oil in hot water to give a noticeable fresh scent before guests arrive.

• Declutter surfaces and wipe down with diluted eucalyptus oil or Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Solution.

• Wipe down outdoor furniture and anything grimy or dusty with diluted eucalyptus solution then hose down.

4. Mattress Germ-buster

Summer is the perfect opportunity to give your mattress a deep clean.

Start by vacuuming your mattress, making sure you get the sides and all the crevices, using a crevice tool if necessary. If there are stains, spot clean using a very small amount of a fabric stain remover (like Bosisto’s Pre-Wash) and blotting it away with a clean damp cloth, using as little product and water as possible.

Next, leave your mattress out in full sun on a hot day for several hours, making sure to flip it so all sides get sun. Sunshine is the natural enemy of dust mites and will help dry any moisture.

Finally, bring your mattress back inside and give it a good spray with Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Spray and leave to air out for 30 minutes before making the bed again.

5. Sports gear & Swimming towels

If you’ve got an active family, summer sweat and chlorine can make your washing stinkier than usual!  Adding 2-3 capfuls of Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Oil in the wash with your usual laundry detergent to give a freshness boost for sports gear.*
