4 Low-tox swaps for your morning routine

Thinking about cutting back on harsh chemicals in your personal care routine?

You don’t need to go big – a few small changes are a great way to start, and the bathroom is the perfect spot to begin.

We’ve compiled a hit list of quick swaps that’ll make your Get Ready with Me (GRWM) routine cleaner and greener for you and the environment.

1. Swap your body wash

Body wash and hand wash are two of the most used products in your bathroom. They also cover the greatest amount of your skin - your body’s largest, living organ.

It stands to reason that reducing the amount of chemicals you lather on your skin daily will have a big impact.

Luckily, it’s easy to choose a better body wash: Bosisto’s Australian Natives Hand and Body Wash range fits the bill perfectly.

Made with pure essential oils and native Australian botanical extracts, Bosisto’s Body Wash has a gentle coconut base and is free from Palm oil, SLES, SLS, Harsh petrochemicals, Synthetic fragrances, Triethanolamine, Propylene Glycol, Artificial colours, Mineral oils, Parabens, Triclosan, EDTA, PEGs & Soap.

You won’t miss the fragrances you love either, with scents like Finger Lime & Coconut, Waratah Flower, Mint & Mandarin, and Banksia, Nerolina and Lavender.

2. Swap your plastic shower puff

We all know those plastic net shower puffs probably aren’t the most natural or biodegradable choice – but what are the alternatives?

A traditional loofah is the most common go-to. You can’t get much more natural than an actual plant to scrub yourself with in the shower! A luffa is a plant from the cucumber family, and when dried it makes a brilliant natural sponge for cleansing and exfoliating.

If you don’t really like the texture of loofahs, there are other alternatives. You could try a Konjac sponge – also made from a natural plant. There are also Sea Sponges.

Or, you could go for an exfoliating glove, a boar bristle brush or just a good old-fashioned reusable face washer!

3. Swap your skincare & haircare

Making the switch to more natural skincare and haircare doesn’t have to mean a complete overhaul. Start small—maybe with your daily moisturiser or cleanser— and work your way up.

Look for products with simpler ingredient lists, fewer synthetic fragrances, and nourishing plant-based extracts.

Haircare is another good place to simplify. Many shampoos and conditioners contain sulphates and silicones, which can strip natural oils or create buildup.

Choosing gentler alternatives can not only be better for your scalp, but also for the environment—especially if you’re mindful about packaging too.

Detoxing your skincare products might take a little trial and error, but your skin (and the planet) will thank you.

4. Swap your air freshener

Don’t underestimate the chemical impact of your cleaning and freshening choices in the bathroom.

Synthetic toilet fresheners and plug-ins can contain a cocktail of artificial fragrances: there are much better alternatives.

A lovely way to keep things fresh in the bathroom is by using a diffuser and essential oils.

The Simply Oil Waterless Diffuser is a great choice: it’s waterless and cordless, so it won’t take up a valuable power socket, and it’s so easy to switch scents.

You can opt for a range of aromatherapy blends depending on the occasion and mood - and since the oils last a long time, it's an economical as well as a sustainable choice.

If you prefer a spray, you can also get eucalyptus or lavender essential oil sprays in an aerosol (check out the medicine aisle in your supermarket).

Stinky bins? Try popping a cotton ball with some Bosisto’s Lavender Oil at the bottom of the bin to keep things fresh and fragrant.
